• Multiport Valve for Filtration and Softener

Overview

A multiport valve (MPV) is a key control component used in water filtration and softening systems to manage different operational modes such as filtering, backwashing, rinsing, regeneration, and more. It simplifies system operation by combining multiple functions into a single, easy-to-operate valve with a rotating handle or lever.

Types of Multiport Valves:

System Type

Valve Type

Flow Direction

Typical Sizes

Filtration (Sand, Carbon, etc.)

Top-mount / Side-mount

Downflow / Upflow

20mm (¾”) to 63mm (2.5″)

Water Softener

Top-mount (for softener tanks)

Downflow

¾” to 1.5″

Standard Functions:

For Filtration Systems:

  1. Filter (Service) – Normal water filtration
  2. Backwash – Reverses water flow to clean filter media
  3. Rinse – Resettles media and flushes loose particles
  4. Waste – Drains water without passing through media
  5. Recirculate (optional) – Water flows in normal direction without going to drain
  6. Closed – Shuts off all ports

For Softener Systems:

  1. Service (Softening) – Normal soft water output
  2. Backwash – Cleans resin bed from settled debris
  3. Brine Draw / Slow Rinse – Pulls brine from tank for ion exchange
  4. Fast Rinse – Flushes out brine and resets bed
  5. Refill – Refills brine tank with water
  6. Regeneration – Automated sequence (in auto valves)
